Wood Floor Maintenance Tips

Wood floors look great in any room of the house. After time though they start to lose their luster and appeal. While this may call for sanding or refinishing, there are steps you can take to make sure this isn't a regular occurrence.

-Do not use vinyl or tile floor cleaning products on wood floors. These self polishing acrylic waxes cause wood to become dangerously slippery and they will dull quick.

-If you have wood floors by any of your homes entrances, invest in durable floor mats or area rugs. The dirt and grit that gets dragged across these areas can cause some serious scratches.

-Do not use a mop on a wood floor. Stagnant water can damage wood floors and discolor them.

-Wipe any spills immediately with a slightly damp towel.

-If a wax floor dulls buff it instead of re-waxing. This will prevent wax build up in areas that are prone to it such as under furniture.

-If your furniture has wooden legs, place felt protectors under each leg. This will prevent your furniture from scratching, scuffing and gouging your wood floors.

-Using a humidifier during the winter months will prevent gaps and cracks in your flooring.
