Removing Rock Salt From Your Hardwood Floors

Rock salt is everywhere at this point of the year, and while it makes the roads safer, it really takes a toll on hardwood flooring. This often leads to wood floor repairs. At Precision Hardwood Flooring we decided to offer this advice when dealing with this winter time headache.
What you'll need:
  • White vinegar
  • Dish soap
  • Floor cleaner
  • Warm water
  • Bucket
  • Mop
  • Rubber Gloves
Now it's time to get rid of those unsightly stains.
  • First put on your rubber gloves, some of the substances in this process can be harsh on your skin.
  • Second fill the bucket with one part warm water and one part white vinegar.
  • Use the mop for large areas that are stained, you can use a soft cloth for smaller areas.
  • Moisten the mop in your water/vinegar solution, do no soak it. Work the mop into the stained areas. If the stains are thick all the solution to set on the stain for a minute.
  • Wipe away the excess.
  • Repeat the process until the salt stains are gone.
  • If the vinegar doesn't cut through all of the salt, fill the bucket with warm water and the floor cleaner.
  • Remove any excess moisture IMMEDIATELY, not doing this could lead to the floorboards warping.
  • Allow the floor to dry.

Do not put any wax or floor sealer on your hardwood floors until the salt has been lifted. If you do the salt will be sealed in to your floors. These tips can be especially handy for hardwood floors in New City, NY.

Why Quality Wood Flooring Counts

Lumber Liquidators is coming under fire after the corporation has been named in a class action lawsuit. The suit alleges that some of the manufacturer's wood products contained excessive amounts of formaldehyde. The class action lawsuit “seeks in excess of five million in damages and injuncvtive relief on behalf of all purchasers of Lumber Liquidators Chinese-made flooring in Alabama, New York and Virginia. None of the plaintiffs are claiming that the excessive formaldehyde affected their health, but they claim they suffered economic harm in buying what is considered substandard flooring.
This is the unfortunate state of the wood flooring industry the current time. Due to the struggling economy many homeowners either had to cancel their home renovation projects, or find cheaper alternatives. Customers are demanding cheaper pricing, without regard to the quality of the materials used. In the long-run this is more detrimental and costly to homeowners. Many experts suggest researching a wood floor installation company with positive reviews and utilize top-quality material. Spending the money now on superior quality and expert installation will end up saving you more money.

Precision Hardwood Floors, is a woodfloor installer in Ramsey NJ, that only uses materials from manufacturers such as Bruce, Armstrong, Mannington, Mirage and Somerset.

Tips for Preserving Your Hardwood Floors

Hardwood floors are a beautiful addition to any home or office space. Utilizing wood is an investment into the future of your floors because wood is a durable material that can undergo a lot of wear and tear over the years. While this may be true, hardwood floors do require routine maintenance to ensure that they stay looking just as good as they did on the day they were installed.

Whether your hardwood floor was recently installed or it is extremely old, contractors can perform services to give your floors an updated and cleaner look. These types of services include floor sanding and floor refinishing.

Sanding floors is the process of smoothing out your floors by taking off a minimum layer of the floor's surface. Refinishing floors is a restoration process that can once again give your floors a beautiful appearance.

These services can be completed at any time in order to preserve your hardwood floors. Other ways to perform basic maintenance on your hardwood floors include the following:
  • Use rugs underneath furniture, especially when moving furniture across the room. Moving heavy objects is one of the easiest ways hardwood floors can become scratched up.
  • Regularly clean your floors based on the type of finish that was put on them. Some of the most common types of finishes include wax and urethane; varnish may have been used on much older floors, but it is no longer used.
  • Use a dust mop to dust your floors before vacuuming them.
  • Use the cleaners that have been recommended to you by the professionals who installed your hardwood floors, or contact a local store to find out the cleaners that would best suit your floor.

If there are marks or stains on your hardwood floor, you can also use steel wool to remove them. After completing this type of removal, the floors will need to be waxed and buffed so the spot(s) do not look different from the rest of the floor.

Hardwood floors can be a great addition in your home or office space, but they will need to be serviced over time to preserve their original appearance. Companies such as Precision Hardwood Flooring LLC can provide services for hardwood floors in Tenafly, NJ. These hardwood flooring professionals offer installation, repair and replacement services for hardwood floors throughout New Jersey and New York.
