Here are some of the different ways that you should go about cleaning different types of floors:
- Surface sealed floors. Most newer hardwood floors are surface-sealed. These types of floors are water resistant and therefore easy to clean. They can be either swept or mopped. Areas that get higher traffic should be mopped monthly
- Penetrating seal treated floors or oil treated floors. These are also pretty common floors now. However, they will be damaged by water, so do not mop. They should be either swept or vacuumed.
- Lacquered, varnished, or shellacked floors. These should all be cleaned as if they were untreated. Liquid will damage them and they should only be vacuumed or mopped.
